"THE CHARGE"
"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."

Memorial Cemetery Restoration Challenge

The intent of this Program is to establish an annual competitive challenge among the Brigades of the South Carolina Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, to restore cemeteries in each Brigade throughout the State South Carolina. The rules are as follows:

Each Brigade will submit to the Division Chief of Staff photos of two cemeteries in their existing state. There will be three photos of each cemetery. These photos will be numbered: Cemetery #1, a1, a2, a3, and Cemetery #2, b1, b2, b3 along with the names of each cemetery on a separate piece of paper (do not put the names of the cemeteries on the photos). The cemetery names will be known only to the submitting Brigade Officers and the Division Chief of Staff. These photos must be mailed and postmarked no later than 10 September of each year. The Chief of Staff will select one cemetery for each Brigade from the photos submitted. These photos with will be placed in a sealed envelope with the Brigades name on the envelope and returned to the Brigade Commanders at the October EC Meeting. Each Brigade will have until, 31 December to complete the work on their cemetery, make three photos of the restored cemetery, marked c1, c2, & c3 and mail them, the original photos, and the names of the participating Camps in that Brigade back to the Division Chief of Staff. The entry envelope must be postmarked no later than Midnight, 31 December. The Chief of Staff will label these entries so that the name of the Cemetery and the submitting Brigade is known only by him and give them to Awards Committee for judging. The work will be judged by the Awards Committee prior to the next Annual Reunion. The winning Brigade will be announced at the Annual Reunion and each participating Camp in that Brigade will be recognized and will receive an award.

It is recommended that each participating Camp of the winning Brigade receive a ribbon which is very unique and distinctive from other ribbons awarded by Division so that it will easily recognizable when displayed with the Camp’s Flag.

In Memory of David Keller.
